Project Description

Newcastle inner city small backyard landscape project

Parry Street, Newcastle

Inner city warmth

One small, stark inner city backyard, two young children, a mum and a dad keen to grow fresh veggies for the family and find a quiet spot to kick back in the sun, a modest budget, and a passion for sustainability.

Challenge accepted.

Sometimes limited choice can be a beautiful thing, and that’s certainly true for this design.

Raised garden beds constructed from recycled railway sleepers make the most of a northerly aspect. Recycled bricks form a generous curve of seating perfectly placed to soak up the sun and create an attractive focal point. Bright red chillies and vibrant purple basil spill out of a recycled-timber green wall that increases the planting area while providing privacy. A generous lawn using the existing turf flows from the back of the house, inviting a myriad or possibilities for play.

✔️ Sustainability
✔️ Warmth, texture, expansiveness
✔️ Seclusion
✔️ Affordability
✔️ A family garden with something for everyone. Most definitely!

Mark Tisdell surprised and delighted us with his innovative design.  Consultations with Mark have been comfortable and he was always willing to discuss any of our reservations, queries and suggestions.

Mark Tisdell from MUD nailed it with the first design concept! And was able to bring this to life with detailed plans that enabled us to get a better idea of how it would look when finished.
